Meet Our Therapist
Carrissa Crim, RDH, OMT
Carrissa has lived in Auburn nearly her whole life. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Eriq, and they have two beautiful young daughters. Her passion for oral health was ignited with her determination to learn more about the birth defect she was born with, cleft lip and palate. She graduated from DeKalb High School in 2012 before attending IU Fort Wayne, where she received a Bachelor's of Science in Dental Hygiene in 2016. After working in the world of private practice dentistry as a dental hygienist for 7 years, she continued her education by taking a course from Sarah Hornsby at MyoMentor. There, Carrissa learned how to truly improve her family and patients lives by improving their airway and facial muscle function. She also became a certified provider for an incredible device called a MyoMunchee!

What is Myofunctional Therapy?
It Can Help With

Facial Development
Correct tongue posture in children can help to naturally expand the roof of the mouth, hopefully reducing the need for braces.
Grinding/Clenching of Teeth
We often grind or clench our teeth because we are subconsciously trying to open our airway, especially at night.
TMJ Disorders
Grinding and clenching of teeth or imbalance in the chewing muscles can lead to significant TMJ pain.

Sleep Disordered Breathing
From simply being a light sleeper who is always tired to mild/moderate Sleep Apnea, re-training your tongue and other muscles of the face can improve the quality of your sleep.
Snoring
Often poor tongue posture or mouth breathing are a catalyst for snoring.
Swallowing
Difficulty swallowing some textures of foods, pills, or a strong gag reflex can be from not using the correct muscles to swallow properly.
